Ürgüp Castle (Temenni Hill)
Located right in the center of Ürgüp district, it stands at an altitude of 1,140 meters above sea level. The southern, eastern, and western slopes of Ürgüp's Temenni Hill consist of approximately 30-meter-high rock walls. The castle is situated at the southeastern end of a roughly northwest-southeast oriented mesa formed by erosion, rising above a plateau composed of ignimbrites eroded by the Damsa Stream and its tributaries.
With its height of 80 meters, this hill offers a panoramic view of the city and can be seen from anywhere in Ürgüp. It got its name from the tradition of making wishes and tying pieces of cloth at the shrine located on its summit. To reach the observation terrace, you pass through an 80-100 meter long tunnel carved into the rocks. When you climb the hill, which is always windy, on a clear day, you can even see the summit of Mount Erciyes if the weather is good.
