Taşkınpaşa Peribacası İçinde Roma Mezarı

Taşkınpaşa Fairy Chimney Shaped Roman Tomb

This geosite is located on the Soğanlı highway to the south of Taşkın Paşa village. It is a Roman tomb carved into a fairy chimney.

Beliefs about life after death held an important place in the Roman period. In this period, it is believed that after death, the soul will be taken to the sky and then to the underground to be questioned by an angel. In this respect, tombs carved on high rock blocks are important both in terms of being close to the sky and in terms of protecting the tomb.

The space for burial is made by carving the rock while constructing the rock tomb. There is one or more rooms in the burial room. His favorite items, clothes, and food are left close to the corpse, and the spot where the body would be laid in the room is set up as a separate platform. There is only one entrance to the burial room. For the protection of the tomb, this entrance is blocked up by a large stone. The rock's surface was smoothed and given a magnificent aspect on the outside of the rock tomb. Sometimes using columns might provide the impression of a temple.
