Nar Eski Bezirhane

Nar Eski Bezirhane

Geosite 7 Nar Old Bezirhane

Bezirhanes were built to produce linseed oil, which was utilized for lighting by the people of the region at the time. Linseed oil was produced by processing the oil obtained by crushing and grinding a herb known as linseed or Izgn in a linseed mill. The obtained oils were used to illuminate churches, rock-carved places and underground cities by means of oil lamps. The process of extracting oil from plants has been known since ancient times. Nutrition, lighting, pharmaceutical industry and varnishing are the main areas where the oils obtained by pressing different plants such as flax (Linum; keten), rocket (Oleum Erucae; ızgın), bluebottle (Cephalariasyriaca; belemir), linseed (Linum usitatissium; zeyrek) are used. The Bezirhane, which consist of sections such as furnace (oven), millstone, millpond, sieving section, wooden pressure section and stable, are also among our cultural heritage which are the representatives of folk architecture.

The bezirhane in the town of Nar is one of the many bezirhanes standing with all its majesty in the Nevşehir region (http://www.nevkayasehir.com/index.php)
