Geosite 2Virgin Mary Church, Old Church (Hagios Gergios) and Bell Tower
According to the inscription of the Virgin Mary Church, located on a hill overlooking the city in the south of Nevşehir Castle, it was built in the time of Pontiff Paisios and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The church was built with the money collected from the Christian inhabitants of the region during the reign of Abdulmecid I, and opened to worship on October 16, 1849. It is one of Nevşehir's oldest monumental buildings. Ignimbrite and basalt were used in its construction. It is under protection as a first degree cultural site.
The Hagios Georgios church, located in the south of Nevşehir Castle, was built in 1797 and the bell tower was built in 1870 as a four-storey. The church has been destroyed in time, only the Bell Tower remains. (http://www.nevkayasehir.com/index.php) The Bell tower made of ignimbrite is under protection as a 1st degree cultural site.
